[Patch 1.2.1] We wanted to take our time with this patch and gather some feedback about how new players are fairing when they first join the game, and what user experience features are the most helpful in order to become a better GTM player. Our dedicated player base loves PvP scenarios but sometimes those scenarios can have negative effects on players that first join the server. It's in everyone's best interest that new players give the game a fair chance, and the discrepancy in gear/weapons do not leave a sour taste in their mouth. With this in mind, we wanted to make sure there are enough visual tools and help that we can offer to new and existing players in order to keep up with the ongoing changes. [Newb PvP Protection Timer] New players will automatically enter this tutorial state while traversing throughout the main map and will lose this state after their timer expires. Players that join the server and are eligible for this PvP Protection will be notified in-game with a message. Please read carefully below about players in this PvP Protection state: - Players will not be able to pick up any items on the ground in the main world. - Players will not be able to interact, shoot, or throw any kind of weapon. - Players will not be able to take any damage from other players. - Players will be limited in the max amount of money they can deposit to their bank. So what's the point? This will allow new players time to explore the map and get accustomed to the looting system, and teleport back to spawn with any loot they've obtained. They will be able to sell their loot, but they will be limited on the amount of money they can deposit in their bank. What's the bank limit? Currently, only the first FOUR GTM ranks are affected by the max bank limit. HOBO -> $75,000 CRIMINAL -> $125,000 HOMIE -> $200,000 THUG -> $300,000 GANGSTER and above -> NO LIMIT Any attempt to deposit over this max limit will stop players and ask them to use /rankup to progress through the game (and teach them about rankups). How long does PvP Protection last? The PvP Protection timer scales off of the user's GTMRank. As they /rankup they will lose more pvp protection, and in turn gain the ability to store more money. HOBO -> 12 minutes of protection CRIMINAL -> 9 minutes of protection HOMIE -> 6 minutes of protection THUG -> 3 minutes of protection GANGSTER and above -> NO PROTECTION Note: This timer only goes down in the PvP world. Can I opt out of this PvP Protection? Yes, the combat protection is OPT-OUT. To be able to play normally (as you are experienced enough), please use /pvptoggle in-game at the spawn. Note that the max bank balance limit will still exist on those GTM ranks. What is the goal of this? As stated above, we want to make sure that the gap between experienced players and new players does not lead to new players being pushed away from the game. The more new players we can transition into experienced players, the more money is moved between the community and the more fun everyone has. Hopefully with these changes, more players will be carrying items, and more players will give the game a fair chance. Why wasn't this done before? Years ago, a higher percentage of the community were at the lower end of GTM ranks, and therefore players had more fun because everyone was closer together in skill/items/etc. This system is in place as a small way to give new players a slight cushion against the typical MOBSTER/GODFATHER rank without dying instantly after they spawn in the map. [Vehicle Changes] - Vehicles that were damaged and/or destroyed did not correctly update their health when players logged out. This has been fixed. - Vehicles can now be repaired and called, as the menu correctly updates the call/repair/send away items in the Personal Vehicle Menu on your phone. - The Akuma can now finally be repaired at the Mechanic NPC at spawn. - With this update, various backend changes were made to how the Mechanic identifies the vehicles and now treats all vehnicles the same. - If GTM's scaled repair variable is set, vehicles can now be repaired at a fraction of the cost depending on the vehicles health. If a full repair costs $10,000 and the vehicle is only 50% damaged, then the repair will cost $5,000. - Fixes issue with full HP vehicles appearing to cost money to repair, when in reality they do not need repaired. [General Changes] - Adds a new command, /links, which will display all of GTM's social pages. - Adds a new command, /wiki, which will link players to our wiki page. - Adds a new command, /map, which will link players to the online web version for the GTM map. - Players can no longer use commands when they are dead. - The off-hand item slot has been disabled. - Updates announcer information. - Vice should no longer be accessible through the GTM Tranzit Menu. - Mr. Goldman will now display the proper amount of dollars a player receives for selling casino chips or buying them. - Players that purchase soup from the Food NPC will no longer be stackable. - Players should no longer be able to pickup items when playing the casino, and during a slot machine roll. - Fixes issue where players would disconnect from a GTM server and rejoin at a later time but be sent to the hub with a message about "Unknown exception". - Fixes issues with kits not showing their proper cooldown timers. This is reflected both in the player message and the player kit GUI. - Fixes issues with Crowbars, and sometimes other currencies, not updating across servers when they are credited from another source. - Fixes issues with some user state transactions, like crediting offline crowbars or permits, as they were not firing correctly or at the right time. - Fixes various backend issues that occur with players not loading in properly. Basically, we have added various feedback messages to tell the player to rejoin in they are in a bugged state. [Weapon Changes] - Players can no longer equip the riot shield in the off hand slot. Riot shields must now be used in the main hand. This is to combat minigun/riot shield being overpowered. We will visit riot shields again in a later patch.
